Hey, welcome back to ADHD owned. Today I'm going to be talking to you about what makes ADHD brains such great entrepreneurs. Now I know that a lot of people have seen the effects of their ADHD, and they've seen how it can hinder them in lots of different areas in their life and situations. And this is true, I would say, for all of us that have ADHD. So sometimes people will think that immediately discounts us from being a good entrepreneur and being able to run a business because it requires so much executive function, right. And this can be true, and there can present some struggles in this area. But also, there are lots of different cool things that our brains can do that actually really help us run a business and a profitable one at that. Okay, so I want to talk a little bit about some of that, because I know that it can be a really big struggle, especially on the hard days. But it can also be really great. And I think a lot of what the ADHD community is talking about now, you know, on the forums and on the internet, and social media is all of the ways that our ADHD affects us negatively. And all of those are super valid and true. But I think we need to talk about more about some of the positives that it actually brings us. And if you've been struggling really hard with your ADHD, and it's really taking a toll on a lot of different areas in your life, it's gonna be hard to see positives because all you're seeing and what you're surrounded by is the negatives, right? But kind of opening our eyes and shifting our focus to look for any positives, is actually shockingly interesting. Because you'll find that there actually are positives to your ADHD brain, you just weren't noticing them or seeing them or didn't think that it was because of your ADHD. So I wanted to mention some of these and lots of people have different names for this. Some people call it a superpower, a gift, a skill and ability. There's lots of different terms that are going around. And I know some people feel triggered by the superpower label of it. And I don't know how I feel about it. I think I loved it at first. Now I'm just aware of everyone being triggered by it. So I try not to use it. But if you think about a superpower superpowers are not always like lovely and dandy. I mean, if you go and like look at movies, when someone realizes that they have a superpower, they don't just wake up knowing how to use it amazingly well. Like there's always a learning curve and the like messing up and the whoops, just punched a hole through the wall. Because I didn't know my strength. They always go through that. And I believe that that's a little bit of what we go through. Right, we do have, quote unquote, skills and gifts and superpowers. But it does take some channeling getting used to and practicing how to use them best, right? So I don't know, I kind of like the superpower. But if that triggers you or if you don't like that, then don't use that use gifts skills. And so now let's talk about some of these quality is that a lot of ADHD people can find in themselves, that actually makes running a business really awesome. And I'm telling you people that don't have an ADHD brain cannot say the same and are a little jealous of us and our ability to do this. Now I did do a little series of the ADHD skills on my Instagram at ADHD female entrepreneurs. So if you wanted to read them and look at them, then go check this out after you finish listening to this, but I'm going to read them off to you and kind of go through a little bit of them. So you know if it applies to you or not. Okay, so the first one that I think most people have his creativity, our brains are incredibly creative. Like we just cannot even contain it. When I put this out. And I because I've been doing this now for like a year where I've been merely focusing on ADHD entrepreneurs and serving them. And every time that I put out creativity as an ADHD skills, superpower gift, whatever, there's always people that say, Oh, I don't have that one. And I find that the people that say that they don't have that one is because they're thinking of creativity in artistic form. And that's not what that means. Some people are really great artistically, and they can be really creative in that sense and be like really out there. But that's not what that means. It just means that you can come up with creative ideas, solutions, ways of doing things. You get really great ideas that are different in our creative and like are different from what everyone else would do. Okay, so when you let your creative juices flow, so does the money come in, obviously with some structure and lots of other things, but your creativity is a huge advantage. Teach that you have as an entrepreneur because you, my friend are going to be doing things much differently than how everyone else is doing it. Because our brain loves that it loves being different, which comes to another one, which is out of the box thinking ADHD entrepreneurs are very much out of the box thinkers, we see what everyone else is doing. We're like, cool, I see where there's some gaps here, I see what they're missing. And we come in and try to do something different. So this is really, really great because it helps us stand out in our market in our industry really easily and effortlessly almost. And I do find that a lot of the entrepreneurs that I work with, have this in their business, they have the things that stand them out, but they're not using them. They're not channeling those things, and communicating it. So people don't know how amazing they are, right? That's a really big fault that's happening in your business, because you are amazing, you're different. And it's actually really good and refreshing. So like, let's talk about that more so people can get that sense from you. All right. So creativity out of the box thinking idea machine, god, yes, we are just full of ideas. Because our brains are just so amazing at coming up with spontaneous on the spur ideas. And it's actually pretty cool. But it can also be a bit frustrating because we're great at coming up with ideas. The hard part is a follow through is taking action on those ideas. Right? That's the part that we're like, Yeah, no, I just want to think about it. Just want to think about how cool this would be. But this is where all businesses start. Every single business that is out here, right now in the universe was all started off of an idea. Isn't that kind of cool to think about. So your ideas can produce money, your ideas can be businesses, your ideas can bring impact and change to people. So that's pretty powerful. Please tell me how stupid and dumb my ADHD brain is. You can't You can't because I come up with ideas that take me further in my business, and stand me out and have people sending me messages saying, Oh my gosh, I love the way you taught that are oh my gosh, that's exactly what I needed to see. Right? So your brain is pretty amazing at that. Okay, so give yourself some Pat's on the back for your genius ideas. And I think all of us, have you ever heard the phrase that people say that everyone has about $5 million ideas in them, like in their lifetime? That means that everyone has come up with at least $5 million ideas? Yeah, well, I think we're on like our fifth 101. Because our brain just cannot help but come up with his genius ideas that we know can make money. Alright, next is our problem solving, we are very good at problem solving. And our brain naturally goes to do this. When we see a problem, our brain naturally wants to solve it, we are solution driven, which is pretty cool. Because having a business is all about solving a problem for someone, or a lack or a desire. So this also helps you and when you hit a snag in your business, and you're trying to figure out what to do, your brain can easily sometimes come up with great solutions or different variations of what you need to do. Or better yet, when a client or customer comes to you with a problem. Oh my gosh, then it's really easy to come up with a solution. It's a bit harder to do it for our own selves, because we overthink. But yeah, if there's a problem, we have a solution for it. And I don't know about you guys, but you ever think about how you can make things more convenient for your life. Like if you're ever like, Oh my gosh, I can reach that down below. If only there was a blank, blank, blank, blank blank that can help me with this. Like, I feel like our brain is just full of that. It just can't help itself. It's pretty cool. Okay, next is innovation. Man, this one is so true, we can be very innovative, kinda because of the other things that we've talked about our creativity, our problem solving, we don't like to do things like everyone else. And our brain loves the challenge of coming up with a way to do something new and solve a problem. So it's pretty nice when our problem solving and our creativity merge new things are created, we are able to innovate new things. And that's pretty awesome. risk taking is definitely another one. This one can be good or bad. But we tend to be open to risk taking because sometimes we know ourselves well and we know what we need. So we're able to make decisions like on the go if needed. And we know when there's an opportunity for something and we're able to take that so that's really awesome. And this really helps you in your business if you can really channel this. Like I have signed up with coaches through the DMS in five minutes and it was like a 6k package. And I did in five minutes because I'm like, No, I've been following this person. I know them. I trust them. I've learned from them already. They have a spot open like I've been looking for a coach. This is pretty Perfect, right? Some people would have said that that was impulsive, but it wasn't I channeled my risk taking I looked at it, it was a safe. For me it was a safe and calculated risk. But oh my god did it pay off. Like after working with that coach, I was able to make my money back pretty immediately. And then I just grew my business so much, she helped me so much. And it was the best decision that I made for myself, because it was a calculated risk. And because our brains work a million times faster than other people's brains, man, they're just going, my brain was able to look at all of the consequences, look at all the different ways, different variations and say, You know what, this is a good risk. Let's do it. So yeah, definitely trust your gut on some things. Now when risk taking can become an issue is when it is striving from impulsive behavior. And when it's trying to meet a need that usually is coming from like a dopamine thing. And what I mean by that is like people will take a risk, because it's almost like your brain is kind of bored. And it just needs something fun to do and be like, Oh my gosh, yes, I'm excited. Let's do it. But really, what your brain was looking for was dopamine, not so much what that decision could give you. So yeah, that's one way to tell if it's going to be a good risk taking moment or a bad one, you want to make sure that it is calculated for sure, still not super impulsive, but still thinking about it. And then make sure that you're not just seeking dopamine here, and you're actually thinking about what you're investing in. Alright, and then we definitely have empathy. And now this doesn't, I have found that this one doesn't apply to all 100% of ADHD entrepreneurs. But I would say that it applies to 80% of them, because we tend to be very empathetic, like we were our hearts on our sleeves, or we just have a really big heart. And we love to help. But some of the underlining issues here are a lot of the times are people pleasing because of the severe rejection we faced throughout our life. And yeah, sometimes it comes from that. But most times, we're very empathetic, because we're sensitive to other people's feelings. And we can sense when something's wrong, we can sense what they need, almost. And a lot of us have a superhero syndrome, where we want to be people's heroes, and we wish that we could solve all of their problems. And as much as people say that this is a beautiful, nice thing to have, it can be but in the end, it's really just coming from you wanting to people, please and be accepted. So definitely something to juggle. But I love leaning into my empathy, because I'm proud of being empathetic. I think it gives me actually a lot to leverage in my business. Because I know that I can check myself and know that I'm in my business for the right reasons. Like I truly want to help my people. And I will do whatever it takes to help them as long as it's not crossing my boundaries, of course, but I will do what it takes because I genuinely love them. I'm not in it for the money, I'm in it to see change, impact transformation. That's what I'm in to him. That's what lights me up at the end of the day, not how much is in my bank, I really could care less about that stuff. And coming from this place really helps you be passionate and show your true authentic motivation and motivators. So that people when they meet you, and they're talking with you, and they're trying to decide if they should buy or hire you, they can see this and it's really great. So yeah, our brain desire to help and understand really creates impact because of our empathy. So this is pretty awesome. Now let's talk about who my favorite intuition who Okay, I would say this one also only applies like 80% of ADHD entrepreneurs. But our intuition is loud, and 99.9%, right? A lot of people I'm pretty sure we've all kind of contemplated whether we're psychic or not. Because we just have this like sixth sense that we just know. And lots of times, like if we're with friends or family members, and they bring someone that we've never met before, we can kind of sense their vibe. We can kind of sense what they're about. And our little radar will be like, Huh, or it'll be like, yeah, yeah, that's a good person. So our intuition is actually pretty on point. And this one is one that I lean into, for my business the most. I am very intuitive. And I lean into my intuition a lot. Like when I'm trying to discern if I am the best fit for someone, and I'm kind of chatting with someone about working in my one on one program. My intuition is what I use all the time, and it's always right, I can kind of sniff away. The nightmare clients are the ones that just aren't the best fits. And I know which ones are like Oh yes, we're gonna vibe This is going to be great. So my intuition is very loud. I really lead with my intuition. And if you feel like you're very intuitive use that okay. Become One with your intuition so that it can help you. It's your gut feeling, and it's going to really help you make the best decisions for your business. Alright, let's talk about hyperfocus Ooh, this one's a good one, I would say definitely all of ADHD entrepreneurs experienced this at some points, some more than others. But hyper focus is a really cool thing where our brain just like latches on to something, and it just begins to consume or knock things out and do. So this is pretty cool. Although it can be a little annoying, when you hyper focus on the wrong thing. And then you spend the whole afternoon working on this, like seamless tasks that you really don't even need to do. And now you're like, oh, shoot, the whole afternoon is gone. And I really needed to do all this other stuff. That is definitely one thing that we can struggle with. But using your hyper focus for your business is pretty cool. And when you're doing something that you love, that you're passionate about, it's kind of easy to hyper focus on your business, which can be good, but also bad, because then you forget to Like eat, breathe, have friends, be with your family. So that I would say is definitely something you have to watch out for making sure you're putting some boundaries for yourself. So you don't completely hyper focus on your business and forget everything else in your life. But hyper focusing on certain tasks is great, and it can be easy to knock them out. All right, now let's talk about being a fast learner. And this is another one that people say, Oh, no, that's not me. I'm not a fast learner. You will Yeah, sure, for talking about math or something, of course, you're not a fast learner. Unless you love math and are good at it. But I suck at math, like third grade level over here. And yeah, I'm not a fast learner. When it comes to math. You know what I am a good fast learner, when it comes to anything ADHD, marketing, business, anything online, I'm good at that stuff. Because that's in my zone of genius, my zone of things that I already do. So I can take new skills in that arena and learn them pretty quickly. And so can you when it comes to your zone of genius and the area that you feel comfortable in are even interested in, right. But when it comes to things that are boring to us, or we know we're not good at, ya know, we're not fast learners in those things. But in a lot of other things, especially in our work, we can be fast learners. Okay, we're a sponge for interesting information. Our brains are so nerdy when it comes to certain things, aren't they. And we just love to learn, like we are literally a sponge for interesting information, like watching Grey's Anatomy goes in. And Google's everything about every single actor, because we just have to know it all. We started looking at where they grew up, and the town that they were in the high school that they went. We're just a sponge for interesting information. So this is pretty cool. But it can really help you in your business, because you can learn a lot of great things that are needed for your business, or even further your learning on your craft. So this is really awesome. Of course, our brains are full of random facts that we love to like spew out at people when they mentioned something, we're like, ooh, did you know that zebras are actually blah, blah, blah. And there's just all these random facts that we hold in our brain. It's so funny. I love watching it happen with my clients. But yeah, we're a sponge for interesting info. So we love to learn. So that narrative that you're done, oh, flick that away. That's so not true. You are very, very smart. We just don't know how to show it. The way we show it is very different than the typical smart person. So there's that, okay, we can be detail oriented, or slash perfectionist when it comes to certain things. This is another one that people are like, Oh, no, not always me. And again, this is I'm not talking about the things that we don't care about. Like the way you put away the laundry or the way you do mindless things that you don't like when it comes to that the details do not matter. We just we're just trying to get it done, right. But when it comes to your craft your business, which you're good at what you pride yourself in, oh, then it's on then we can be very detail oriented. And really looking at all the details and making sure that they are the best quality that they can be. And this can be really great, but it can also bite us in the ass for sure. Because then it'll take us away from making decisions that need to be made. And we'll just start procrastinating things because we know we can't do them at the center that we wish we could do them. So then we just put it off until we're in a better mood to be able to do it. So yeah, perfectionism is a huge problem, especially with the ADHD women entrepreneurs, US gals are pretty perfectionist when it comes to certain things. And it can really halt our growth. And we'll have episodes on this on how to manage through that because it really, really can sabotage a lot of your success. But yeah, being detail oriented can be really good. We can be energetic. Yes, for sure. When it is something that we love and enjoy and we're not super burned out then. Yeah, and then of course my ADHD hyper people, I mean, they got bound have energy, they're super energetic all the time. And they're so much fun to be around. But for some of those that are either introverted or inattentive, ADHD, you can still be energetic just in your own ways. And depending on like your mood, the time and all of that stuff, but I definitely get energized, doing my business or doing certain things, and I just have like the energy to do some things. And it's really helpful to to get things done. So that's really good, we tend to be able to be good at multitasking. At times, sometimes we can take on several things, when we're in a flow, then multitasking is like easy for us. And we can do it. And other times our brains want to multitask. But this really keeps us back because it's too overwhelming. And we can't keep up. And I always laugh at myself when I'm trying to do all of the things all at once. And I'm almost frustrated at myself of like, Why can I do them all at once? How rude. But yeah, that's when I'm like, Okay, my brain is just trying to multitask here, trying to be super productive, like we need to take it down a notch. But when we can multitask, there are times in my business where I am doing several things at once. And I'm able to hold those plates spinning. And it's actually pretty cool. When I'm able to do it, we can appreciate the details. And I know my artistic musician, creative ADHD entrepreneurs in this one can really understand this one. But there's just something about our brains that can really appreciate the small things or the details, like have you ever looked at the sky and just like, Man, that one cloud looks so um, and you just like start appreciating and feeling so grateful for it, but then seeing it with so much beauty, and then you try to tell the person next to you. And they're just like, yeah, I mean, the clouds always look like that. You're like, No, no, it's like that one stroke. So yeah, we tend to be able to appreciate the details, which I really love. I think it's really cool about us that our brains can really appreciate the beauty or the effort something took. So yeah, we tend to see what no one else can really see and appreciate the beauty of it. And some of us can really even use it to our advantage because especially in art, like when you can really appreciate like you have a vision in your head. And you know, and you can appreciate that moment, like you see, everyone else is seeing what you see, but you made it into a beautiful art piece. That's pretty freakin cool. curiosity. We are very curious beings. And this really helps us in a lot because we're curious, we learn about new ventures, we learn about new strategies, new ways of doing things. We learn more about people. Yeah, curiosity is really good to have. Of course, there's that saying that curiosity killed the cat. So if you get too curious, he spent the whole afternoon researching about Grey's Anatomy actors, then your curiosity is kind of biting you in the ass. But yeah, curiosity can be really good. So don't stray away from it. It's good. And a lot of ADHD entrepreneurs can be quite charismatic. And now this one doesn't apply to all of us, especially some of the introverted and attentive ones, because we're still working on like owning ourselves and loving ourselves. But usually, when we're around people that we really love and feel safe around, we can be pretty charismatic. But yeah, ADC entrepreneurs are usually pretty easy to talk to. We kind of like talking. And we like being around other people, sometimes in controlled environments. And, yeah, we can be really funny to actually, the humor of our ADHD brain is very different. Very, very different. And that's why growing up, we were probably made fun of or felt like the odd one out because what we found funny wasn't what everyone else found funny. Our brains can be very humorous. And we like to see things in humorous ways. So yeah, this can help. We can be very fun and charismatic. This is great. Of course, passionate, we can be who we can be very passionate. That's one that I really love. And I remember always kind of seeing people in my industry and like not being able to feel passion from them, even just from a video. But like, anytime I would watch any of my videos, I'm like, God, I think I need to dial it down a few notches, because just like way too passionate, man. But when we find what we love, and we get to do that, oh, we're very passionate, like, put me up on the soapbox. Of course, entrepreneurs are passionate about what they're doing. They're doing it for the right reasons. But our passion just like runs through our veins. And it's so hard to hide. So yeah, this is definitely something that you need to lean into your business because people love buying from passionate people. If I can't see the sparkle in your eye, then I'm like, are you just trying to take my money? Or do you actually care about what you're selling? Right? So yeah, these are just kind of a summed up list of some of the amazing things that our ADHD brains do for us, especially when running a business. So that whole narrative that I can't be a successful business owner, if I have ADHD rongo I do not believe that. I do not subscribe to that narrative anymore. I used to. And you know where that got me nowhere. Because I was limiting my potential I was limiting what I could do and my success I was self sabotaging myself with my mindset. As soon as I believed you know what my ADHD may be some of the things that I hate about myself, but they are also the things that I love about myself. And I bet that the more you find out about your ADHD and how it shows up, and almost you realize that a lot of the quote unquote quirks that you thought were just yours, are actually just ways that your ADHD was showing up in your life, you're gonna realize that a lot of things that you love about yourself are your ADHD. So let's use these for your business. Okay, this gives you a huge advantage to running a really awesome profitable business, you just have to lean in to them. And really also, like I said, try to gain control and not be punching holes in the wall because you can't manage your super strength, right.
