What Stops ADHD Entrepreneurs From Nailing Their Marketing (top tips)
===
[00:00:00] Hello, welcome back to ADHD own and ADHD entrepreneurs podcast. It has been a while because I was in the middle of moving and there's so many changes in my life. Um, but I am back. Can't tell if you can notice yet, but I have not been able to find my podcast, Mike, since we moved and I've already checked all of the boxes.
[00:00:26] Um, so my hunch is that it got thrown away accidentally, which I'm really sad about, but I'm also. Clinging to hope that it's somewhere. And I just haven't found that out. So until then I will be recording from my computer because I really miss chatting with you guys. And, um, a lot of you guys have been asking me where I've been, so anyways, let's get into today's topic.
[00:00:50] Um, and today we're going to talk about marketing and selling your business when you have an ADHD brain, because this is something that is. [00:01:00] Something we cannot quite avoid. Um, and many of us end up procrastinating on our marketing because it's just not good enough because last time I spent all this time doing it, it got me no results because I just need to fulfill my orders or I just need to do all these other things.
[00:01:17] I don't have time to market, or even sometimes the I'm just so busy that marketing means more clients and more working. I just don't even know how to do that right now. Um, so marketing is, like I said, an unavoidable thing in your business, like you are running a business, you are providing something that helps, that serves a specific type of person, right?
[00:01:42] Whether that's a product, a service and experience, whatever. Now, how do you connect with the ideal person that would love what you have to offer? And it would be a no brainer investment for them. Okay. I mean, there's many ways that you can do it and there's actually. Awesome. People that [00:02:00] have been able to like really cut down on their marketing by like using referrals and having other type of systems.
[00:02:07] Um, but for those of us who don't have those systems set up or need to really nail our marketing so that our marketing is doing the heavy lifting in our business for us, then actually, what was the point I was going?
[00:02:24] Okay. I think I was just trying to say that. Marketing is the avenue, the bridge between you and your ideal client. Okay. Now let me spell it out in a different way. Marketing is the avenue, the bridge that gives you the opportunity to make an impact. Now here's something that a lot of ADHD entrepreneurs do not realize that when you stop making an impact, when you stop helping people, when you stop feeling like you are.
[00:02:57] Of service to your [00:03:00] community, to your audience, to whoever which could mean that you're not getting sales, you're not getting clients like it's been really dry and you haven't been able to provide your services or help people. We start to really feel dead and we start to really lose our motivation and our happiness because being of service and being.
[00:03:26] Of impact and helping people it's just ingrained in our DNA as an ADHD person. And as an empath for many of us, we love hoping even if it's for free, right? So not only does marketing. Provide you clients, but it also provides you your lifeline because when you stop being able to serve the people that you really want to serve, when the sales start stuff coming through and you haven't had any new clients, like you really start to feel [00:04:00] unaligned, you start to feel like something is missing.
[00:04:03] And then you start going into the spirals of like, maybe I should just get a nine to five or maybe I'm just actually not really good enough or no one really seems to care or everybody else is doing so much better than I am. And we start to get in through to these loops that are so dangerous for our business and for our mindset and our mental health.
[00:04:23] So marketing isn't just this like necessary evil. That you feel like I just have to feed the beast and it'll get me what I want or what I need, but it's really your way of making sure that you are staying in service and being able to provide an impact for people. Okay. Um, and I've, I've experienced this firsthand and I've also seen lots of my membership clients talk about it.
[00:04:50] And, and from the Facebook group, I've seen a lot of people talk about it in the Facebook group where they just start. Not being able to make an impact because they're not getting [00:05:00] sales or not. They're not really doing much with their marketing or they don't know how to do their marketing and it really starts to wear on them.
[00:05:06] Okay. So I don't want that to happen with you. I don't want you to go down that road. So let's talk about some of the things that you really need to like pay attention, to overcome. In your business for your marketing that are really going to make a difference for you. Okay. This is something that you need to focus on when you're an ADHD entrepreneur and it comes to marketing and selling.
[00:05:27] Okay. First one, your mindset and the way your brain sees marketing. Okay. Because this one is. Like eight out of 10 times. The thing that is holding people back from really spending more time and doing marketing for their business. It's the fear of rejection. It's the, I don't want to sound salesy. I don't want to be annoying.
[00:05:53] I don't want to feel or sound desperate. I wish people could just come to me and I didn't even [00:06:00] have to do any marketing. I hear this from so many ADHD entrepreneurs and I totally get it. Okay. So when our mindset sees marketing as this like annoying evil thing that we have to do. That is in one way, feeling unaligned, it's making us feel like we have to be somebody else to be able to market our business.
[00:06:26] We have to be able to like be a sleazy sales person or really like show up as somebody else to be able to make sales. Okay. First of all, that is a myth that is a lie. Do not believe that you don't have to change who you are. In order to make sales for your business, you get to be who you are exactly how you are and make money.
[00:06:47] Okay. Whoever is telling you that you need to be different, that you need to change. No, don't listen to them. Okay. Now, can we challenge ourselves? Can we grow and transform? Of course, yes. [00:07:00] Okay. Of course, I'm not saying that, but you don't have to be somebody that you're not just to make sales. Okay. You don't, you don't have to like, try to appear more professional or try to be a little bit more put together or you don't have to do that.
[00:07:16] Okay. You get to show up as you are, because it is your business. You decide what that's going to look like. Okay. So when it comes to market, The key is in repetition. And this is something that my clients and ADHD entrepreneurs do not like to hear because how desperately we wish that we could just post about it once.
[00:07:41] Just talk about it once. And that's it like, boom, we did it. We talked about it. Now. People are just going to sign up. Now people are just going to buy and awesome. I get to do what I love. I get to serve people. It's an happy date, but that is not quite the reality of that. In marketing a takes talking [00:08:00] about an offer, something that you are offering several times, because people need to hear it several times.
[00:08:07] Okay. One time is not enough because what if someone just wasn't on social media that day? What if the algorithm didn't do you any favors and they didn't get to even see your posts then what? And that was your only way to get it out. No. Right. So this is really hard for us ADHD entrepreneurs, because it requires some level of continuing to keep on, right?
[00:08:32] Like to talk, keep talking about your offer. Um, and it also quote, unquote, exposes us to potential rejection. So like when you don't get any likes, when you don't get any engagement, when you don't get any DMS from people wanting to buy, or you don't get the notification that a purchase just came through and you made a marketing post that triggers your rejection, sensitivity, dysphoria your RSC.
[00:08:58] The part of our brain [00:09:00] that wants to protect us from being rejected because being rejected can feel like the heaviest thing, the world. When you're an ADHD person and ADHD entrepreneur who has faced a ton of rejection in their lifetime, and it has sent them two spirals of I'm not good enough. Okay. And this is something that happens to a lot of ADHD.
[00:09:22] People that don't even have a business, but when you have a business, you are exposing yourself to very constant rejection. Because people are not always going to want what you are offering or not needed at the moment or not even pay attention. And of course, you're going to get some of the annoying, ridiculous people.
[00:09:39] They should never listen to that are like, oh, you're just trying to make money or, oh, well I bought this off of somebody else or just any of the negative comments that you may get by the way friends and family are not your best clients. Don't even try to sell to them because they can be the. Loudest naysayers of your business.
[00:09:58] Okay. [00:10:00] That's just a parentheses for that. So repetition is key. When it comes to your marketing. Now you don't have to be annoying about it. You don't have to post the same, like copy and paste, same thing every single time, because then that can definitely come annoying, but you can just show different aspects about it, different angles, about what you're saying.
[00:10:21] And the call to action. The purpose of it be to promote whatever it is that you're promoting. Okay. So back to my first point, which was mindset, we really have to detach our identity from our business. Okay. If someone rejects quote unquote or says no, or says that are needed, or it says. To your offer.
[00:10:46] They're not rejecting you, they're rejecting a service or product that you provide. Now, this is really hard because we're very passionate about what we do. So it feels very personal to us when someone [00:11:00] doesn't buy or when someone buys from somebody else. Interested in our service, but it's not a personal thing.
[00:11:07] Your conducting business matters. This is a business thing, right. So we really have to try to detach our identity from that for many reasons, but definitely when it comes to marketing. It can just get really, really, really heavy if your identity is intertwined with your business. Okay. When people say no to me, when people say I can't afford it right now, I'm going to do this other thing or whatever it is.
[00:11:35] I don't take it personally because. I know that I am still serving and impacting people. And if this person, if we're just not a good fit, that we're just not a good fit. And you know what, thank God that there are other people out there that can probably be a better fit for that person. Okay. For me in my business and the way I see my business and approach it, there are no competitors.
[00:11:59] There are [00:12:00] just other options. And I rejoice when I see other people that, that want to do something similar that I'm doing, you know why? Because I'm not everyone's cup of tea so way to go. Now there's more options for more people so that they can get the support because it doesn't just have to be me.
[00:12:18] The people that do align with me that resonate with me that want to learn from me.. Those people will come. And those people are listening and watching whether I know it or not, whether they tell me or not. Okay. So that leads me to another point, which is that with marketing, you can't just quickly give up, it requires some faith in yourself and faith in your business, and it requires patience to be honest, which is not what you want to hear, because we can be very impatient people, but it definitely requires some patience because.
[00:12:53] You could post out several things about it. You can talk about your offer and like still hear crickets, [00:13:00] but the moment you decide, like, you know what, I'm just going to stop. Like, what is this for? You don't know if somebody was watching because they were really still trying to figure out if they were going to buy or not.
[00:13:09] You don't know if making that next post was going to be the one that brought you in the sales or the people that you really needed and knew that you could serve. So it requires some patients. It is not just a one and done type of thing. And it requires some faith in yourself. It requires a long-term strategy, knowing that you're in this for the long-term, it doesn't matter if your product change or you change or whatever, but marketing is a brand awareness thing.
[00:13:37] There are so many people that I have been following that I have been checking on. That I've yet to buy from or people that it took me a while to buy from them. But you know, what made it different was that they didn't give up. They were still showing up. I didn't forget about them because they were still showing up.
[00:13:56] And whether it took a few months, a year to three years [00:14:00] later, I buy for them three years later. Okay. So when it comes to business, you've got to remember that this is a long, your marketing is a longterm. Statistically, it says that people need to see you be exposed to you seven to nine times before they finally decide to buy.
[00:14:21] And I don't know if that makes you so angry, but that's like so annoying. Cause we wish it could just be once or twice. Right. But it's not, people need to be sold. And oftentimes it's not the first time that they see it. Okay. And also. Put in the algorithm stuff. And like, you know, you post them, not many people even saw your posts.
[00:14:42] So you think you did a great job with your marketing could have been amazing, but if the algorithm did it serve you any purpose, didn't really do any good. Then there's tons of people that didn't even see your marketing. And if you think, well, that was good enough, then you're missing all the other opportunities for people to really be able to see it.
[00:14:59] Okay. [00:15:00] Now the last thing I want to talk about. Um, and by the way, I'm going much more in depth with these and actually giving you my formulas, like easy to do things and easy marketing ideas in my upcoming master class. Um, and I'll talk about that a little bit at the end, but it's only $37. I will put it in the show notes for you guys.
[00:15:20] Um, and, and this is a. Piece of the puzzle of a much bigger piece when it comes to running an ADHD business and doing it profitably and in a sustainable way where you're not burning yourself out. Um, and it's a group program I'm coming out with soon. There's still lots of things that I don't have yet to announce for that.
[00:15:39] But this master class is going to show you a little bit about how you can market your business as an ADHD entrepreneur, and do it in a way that is going to make sense for your brain and do it in a way that is actually doable. ADHD proof is what I'm calling it. Um, so wait, what was my last point? [00:16:00] Oh yeah.
[00:16:01] My last point is that. Because we are very rollercoaster people. We can have lots of high highs, lots of low lows, and there's lots of ebbs and flows in our business and in our energy and our capacity. How do you manage that when you're running a business and you're already carrying around all these hats, um, you're already doing a lot of things for your business, and then you have to like, think about your marketing.
[00:16:31] Could there be a strategy. A back pocket tool you could have that helps you when you are in these low energy days, low executive function, low dopamine days, where you just don't want to. Okay. And in this masterclass, I'm going to talk to you about a two step two step strategy of something that you are going to be able to gift yourself with by putting in a little bit of work, to get this mapped out.
[00:16:57] But after it is done and we will be working on this a little [00:17:00] bit in the masterclass itself, I'm going to give you guys time to do it with some guidance so that you can actually walk away with your own like strategy and things mapped out, but you need to consider how can you market your business in a low energy way and in a high energy weight so that when you're having a low energy weekday, you just don't want.
[00:17:23] You can pick from some of these things that you are pre-thinking about of doing it in a low energy way. And in the masterclass, I'm going to show you some ways of, uh, like some examples of this and how I do it. , but you really want to ask yourself and have a strategy. So that, that way you're prepared when you have a shit week or a shit day, and you don't feel like doing it, or if life just gets fricking busy and you can't put in all the effort that you want into your mind.
[00:17:52] So you're going to have some strategies, some things that you can just pick off from and quickly upload for those low energy days so [00:18:00] that you're still showing up and still quote, unquote, warming up your audience so that they want to buy and could see the value of what you bring. Okay. So that is my. Tip for that is we need to consider our ADHD and our brain when it comes to literally every area of your business.
[00:18:22] But since we're talking about marketing today, then you really got to think about it when it comes to your market, you don't have to do it the way other gurus and experts and how all the people that seem like they have it all put together how they're doing it. Okay. You can also just like half ass, your marketing.
[00:18:38] It doesn't have to be perfect. Perfect is a lie by the way. So stop trying to hold yourself to this standard that is so unrealistic for your business and for what you are capable of doing on a day-to-day basis. It doesn't have to be perfect. Doesn't have to be super fancy. It doesn't have to be super well thought out and well-written, , it [00:19:00] just needs to be done.
[00:19:02] It just needs to be uploaded. It just needs to happen. Okay. So, um, check out the show notes for the link to the masterclass. It's only $37 guys. So this is a steal for what I'm going to be revealing to you guys and showing you around how I do it. Um, and we're going to be covering the mindset blocks of how to like get through those so that you actually can feel comfortable.
[00:19:27] And confident, marketing and selling your business. We're going to go through the 3, step formula of creating a doable marketing plan for yourself. Like the three steps that it takes to having this marketing plan for yourself that you could use every single day. And then I'm going to show you my two backend hacks, like put it in your pocket hacks that you're going to be able to have.
[00:19:49] To be able to mark it on a low energy day or a high energy day, and this makes things so much easier. Oh my gosh, there's a squirrel! [00:20:00] Yay. So fitting, he came to listen to how to market his business. Um, and then lastly, we're going to talk about like how to consider your ADHD so that your marketing personality and style.
[00:20:15] Can align with that and align with your own personality because I am so tired of seeing my clients think that they have to show up a certain way to be able to do marketing correctly or to be able to market their business. No, you can do it your own way. There is no one right way of doing this guys.
[00:20:34] There's your way or somebody else's way. Those are your two options. So how do you create your way of doing marketing that aligns with you? And it's going to make it so much easier. It's going to feel so much easier to get it done because you are going with the flow and going with what already naturally is your personality, your patterns, the way you liked things.
[00:20:57] Okay. So. That is what we're going to be [00:21:00] covering in the marketing masterclass, the how to create your ADHD proof marketing plan. And by the way, if you have filled out marketing plans before that are like pages and pages long, no. Okay. That did not consider your ADHD. And it was a lot of rigid type of structure that our brain doesn't do good in because we're very rebellious when it comes to really rigid structure.
[00:21:24] So I'm going to show you a much easier, simpler way of doing that in my marketing class. Yes, there's going to be a replay if you can't make it live. And if you are listening to this months later, then you can purchase that replay. And there is going to be a Q and a at the end. That's only for those who show up live.
[00:21:40] There also is going to be a workbook that is going to be really helpful. For you to be able to map out some of the things we talked about in the, in the masterclass. So that is what you're getting in this amazing masterclass. So I hope you can sign up and you can be their friends because it is going to be.
[00:21:57] Instrumental for your business and show you a [00:22:00] different way of approaching your marketing so that you can really start nailing your sales and not feeling like you're doing it in a weird way where it doesn't feel aligned. Um, so if this was helpful for you, I would love to hear that on my Instagram DMS, let me know that you really enjoyed this.
[00:22:18] Tell me what your biggest takeaway was. Okay. I always say this at the end of my podcast, but I mean it, and I love getting these DMS because I get to have a chat in a back and forth sometimes with some of you guys to really even absorb what you learned even more. Because when you do that, you are just solidifying this information a little bit more in your brain so that you have more of a probability of actually taking action.
[00:22:44] And actually retaining what you just learned and didn't just waste 20 whatever minutes of your life. So I will hear from you in my DMS, and hopefully we'll have another podcast episode for you guys soon. Hopefully cross my fingers. I can find my freaking microphone, if not, I'm just gonna have to buy [00:23:00] it again.
[00:23:00] But I would really love to find it, so I don't have to do that. So, yes. Okay. I will see you at the masterclass hopefully, and if not in my DMS. All right guys, have a good.
